Garage door answering service for a snapped spring at 6 a.m.

Short answer

A garage door answering service answers your calls when you’re driving between jobs or working under a door. Ours is 100% AI: it opens with your company name, says it’s an AI and asks the questions that decide how urgent the call is. Is anyone hurt? Is the door stuck open, stuck shut or off its track? Is a car trapped inside? Calls that can’t wait reach your on-call technician, the rest are booked, and nobody is told to lift a door with a broken spring.

When garage door calls come at the wrong time

It’s 6:10 on a Monday morning in Tacoma. You’re on the highway to a commercial job across town, both hands on the wheel, and your phone lights up on the dash mount.

It’s a nurse whose torsion spring just snapped with a bang. The door is shut, her car is inside, and she starts at seven. In the same hour: a homeowner whose door came off its track before a weekend away, a property manager who wants quotes on twelve units, and someone whose opener stopped answering the remote. If the nurse gets voicemail, she calls the next company that comes up in her search.

How the call goes

  1. It opens with your company name

The AI says: “Lone Pine Garage Doors, this is AI Receptionist, the AI assistant. What’s happening with your door?”

  2. It checks that nobody is hurt or trapped

A door that came down on a person, a pet or a car gets your 911 line if anyone is hurt, before any other question.

The AI says: “Is anyone hurt, or is anyone or anything caught under the door?”

  3. It asks how the door is stuck

Stuck open means the home can’t be secured. Stuck shut matters if a car is inside. Off its track can mean either.

The AI says: “Is the door stuck open, stuck closed, or hanging off its track?”

  4. It asks whether the car has to get out

Some companies treat a trapped car and a caller who has to leave as same-day. Your rule decides.

The AI says: “Is your car inside, and do you need it this morning?”

  5. It reads your safety line and routes the call

Your line, word for word: don’t lift the door, stay clear of the springs and cables. Then the call goes to your on-call technician, the first slot today, or a booked visit confirmed once it’s saved. Install quotes follow our contractor estimate request script, and night calls the after-hours triage protocol.

The AI says: “Please don’t try to lift the door or touch the springs. I’m connecting you with our technician.”

What counts as urgent

Our defaults for a garage door company are below, and each one can change.

What counts as urgent
SituationWhat happens
Someone hurt, or a person or pet trapped by the door 911 line first, then your on-call technician
Door stuck open or off its track, home can’t be secured Urgent: on-call technician, by your rule
Broken spring, door shut, car inside and the caller has to leave Urgent or first slot today, by your rule
Commercial door that won’t open or close at a business Urgent, if you serve commercial accounts
Broken spring, nobody needs the car today First open slot
Opener, remote or keypad not working Booked into the next open slot
New door, new opener, or quotes for several units Estimate booked, or a message for the office

What it never says on these calls

  • To lift the door by hand, pull the emergency release or touch a spring or cable, beyond the safety line you approved.
  • That the door is “safe to use” or will hold until morning.
  • A price for springs, an opener or a new door you haven’t approved.
  • An arrival time you haven’t set.

What you decide

  • What’s urgent before opening hours: a trapped car, a door stuck open, or only injuries.
  • Your safety line, in your words, including whether the emergency release is ever mentioned.
  • Who’s on call, early mornings and weekends, and who’s the backup.
  • Commercial accounts: whether they always go straight through.
  • Prices: a flat spring price you approve, or none on the phone.
  • Estimates: which installs it books, and how long each visit blocks.

We set it up the way you want and you approve the final version.

Why this works for garage door companies

Our call protocols come from nearly two decades of running phone reception for small businesses, and a garage door call turns on two or three facts. It asks what matters: hurt or trapped first, then open or shut, then whether the car has to get out. It never promises what you don’t: a broken spring is under enormous tension, so the AI never talks a caller into lifting the door, and never quotes a repair you haven’t priced.

Both rules are on our method. If you also cut keys or rekey locks, the locksmith answering service page starts with a different danger question; other trades are listed on home services.

What it costs

Calls are billed one at a time, never by the minute, and one put through to your on-call technician still counts as a single call. On Pay As You Go each answered call is $0.99, with no monthly fee; busier shops can take the 50-Call Plan, 50 calls for $29 a month. All plans are on pricing.

  • Pay As You Go $29.70
  • 50-Call Plan Best fit $29.00

What the month would cost on each plan: the monthly fee plus each call past the ones included.

Questions garage door owners ask

What does a garage door answering service do with a broken spring call?

It checks that nobody is hurt, asks whether the door is open or closed and whether a car is trapped, reads your safety line and then follows your rule: put through to your on-call technician, booked into the first slot today, or booked for later. You get a summary with every answer and what the caller was told.

Will it explain how to open the door by hand?

Only if you approve the exact words, and only for the cases you choose. Some garage door companies don’t want the emergency release mentioned when a spring is broken, because the door can drop. The AI reads your line word for word and never adds its own instructions.

Can a garage door virtual receptionist book installs and estimates?

Yes. For a new door or opener, it takes what the caller wants and the address, then books the estimate visit in your slots, confirmed only once it’s saved. For a property manager with several units, it takes the details and passes them to whoever handles commercial quotes.

Does it work as a garage door phone answering service while I’m driving?

That’s exactly the situation it’s built for. You forward your line when you’re on the road or under a door, and the AI answers every call by your rules. Urgent calls are put through, the rest are summarized for when you stop. You keep your number; the setup steps are on how it works.

Will it book a same-day spring replacement without asking me?

Only if you’ve told us to. Some garage door companies hold the first slot of the day for springs and let the AI fill it when a caller has the car inside and has to leave; others want every same-day job passed to the on-call technician first. Either way the caller hears only what you approved, and the summary shows which rule it followed.
