Call recording and AI notice

Last updated

Every call answered by AIReceptionistGo is handled by an AI assistant, and the call may be recorded and transcribed. Callers are told both things at the start of the call, before any details are taken. This page explains what callers hear, why calls are recorded and how the recordings are used.

What callers hear

At the start of each call, the AI receptionist answers with the business name, introduces itself as an AI assistant and says the call may be recorded. For example:

"Thanks for calling Rivera Plumbing. This is the AI assistant, and this call may be recorded. How can I help?"

Our AI receptionist never claims to be a person. If a caller asks whether they’re speaking to a human, it says it’s an AI.

Why calls are recorded

Recordings and transcripts let the business that was called:

  • receive an accurate summary of what the caller needed;
  • check exactly what was said, if something is unclear;
  • improve the instructions the AI receptionist follows.

Recordings are not used for advertising and are not sold.

If you called a business that uses AIReceptionistGo

The recording and the details you gave belong to the business you called. We keep them on its behalf, for the period it chooses. To ask for a copy, a correction or deletion, contact that business; we’ll help them answer you. More detail is in our privacy policy.

If you’d rather not be recorded, you can end the call and contact the business another way.

If you use AIReceptionistGo for your business

Recording laws in the United States differ by state. Most states allow a call to be recorded with the consent of one party. Some require the consent of everyone on the call, including California, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Montana, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania and Washington. Telling every caller at the start that the call may be recorded is the approach we use on every account, wherever the caller is.

You remain responsible for complying with the laws that apply to your business, for example if you’re in a regulated profession or your callers are in another state. Our state-by-state guide to call recording laws is a starting point, not legal advice. Your responsibilities are also set out in our terms of service.
