Pest control answering service that asks who’s allergic before it asks for the address
Short answer
A pest control answering service answers your calls while your technicians are in crawl spaces and attics. Ours is 100% AI: it uses your company name, says up front that it’s an AI and asks first whether anyone has been stung or bitten, then who’s exposed. An allergic child next to a wasp nest is a same-day job; ants in the kitchen can wait for the next open slot. Urgent calls are flagged for whoever runs your routes, routine service is booked, and you get a summary of every call.

When pest control calls come at the wrong time
It’s 3:30 on a July afternoon in Des Moines. You’re on your back in a crawl space with a headlamp and a sprayer, and your phone is ringing in the truck.
One caller has a wasp nest over the back door and a son who’s allergic. One is a restaurant manager who saw a mouse an hour before the dinner rush. One found bed bugs after a trip. One wants to know if the dog can go back on the lawn after this morning’s treatment. Your office line goes to voicemail at five, and stinging insects don’t keep office hours.
How the call goes
-
It picks up for your company
The AI says: “Fieldstone Pest Control, this is AI Receptionist, the AI assistant. How can I help?”
-
It asks about stings and reactions first
Anyone stung or bitten and having a reaction gets your 911 line before any other question.
The AI says: “Has anyone been stung, or is anyone having a reaction?”
-
It asks what the caller is seeing, and where
Inside or out, and what the caller sees. It writes that down; it doesn’t name the pest for them.
The AI says: “What are you seeing, and is it inside the home or outside?”
-
It asks who’s exposed
Someone allergic, small children, pets, or a business that serves food. This answer decides how fast you go.
The AI says: “Is anyone in the home allergic to stings, or are there small children or pets?”
-
It checks for existing customers and routes the call
If the caller is on a service plan, it asks whether this is a callback between visits. Then your rules: flagged for today, booked into the first slot, or booked and confirmed once saved. New-customer quotes follow our contractor estimate request script, and night calls the after-hours triage protocol.
The AI says: “Are you on one of our service plans, and is this a callback between visits?”
What counts as urgent
We start a pest control company with these rows. Change any of them.
| Situation | What happens |
|---|---|
| Someone stung or bitten and having a reaction | 911 line first; then flagged for your office |
| Stinging insects near a door, with someone allergic at home | Urgent: same day, by your rule |
| Rodents or roaches at a restaurant or food business | Urgent: your commercial lead, by your rule |
| Bees swarming inside a wall or living space | Urgent or first slot, by your rule |
| Bed bugs found | Inspection booked into the first open slot |
| Termite swarm or damaged wood found | Inspection booked |
| Quarterly plan, ants, a one-time treatment quote | Booked into a route, or a message for the office |
What it never says on these calls
- Which product you’ll use, or that a treatment is safe for children, pets or someone pregnant, beyond the line you approved.
- How soon people or pets can go back in, or back on the lawn, unless it’s your approved line.
- To spray or knock down a nest themselves.
- What the pest is from a description, such as “sounds like carpenter ants.”
- A price, or a guarantee that the pests won’t come back, that you haven’t approved.
What you decide
- Your urgent list: allergies, food businesses, swarms inside, or anything else that can’t wait.
- Your safety lines about products and re-entry, word for word, or none at all.
- Plan customers: how callbacks between visits are handled, and whether they’re free.
- Commercial accounts: who gets those calls, and whether they always go straight through.
- Booking: which services it books, and how long each one blocks on a route.
- Prices: plan and treatment prices quoted on the call, or left for your team.
We set it up the way you want and you approve the final version.
Why this works for pest control companies
Our call protocols come from nearly two decades of running phone reception for small businesses. On a pest control line, the pest matters less than who’s exposed to it. It asks what matters: stings, allergies, children and pets come before the address, because they decide whether your route changes today. It never promises what you don’t: whether a product is safe and when a family can go back inside are answers that belong to your label, your license and your technician, so the AI only reads the lines you approved.
More on our method. If your crews also treat lawns, the answering service for landscapers page handles the spring rush its own way; all ten trades are on home services.
What it costs
Spring and summer bring the calls. This pest control phone answering service bills per answered call, not per minute, and setup is free. Off-season, Pay As You Go costs nothing a month and $0.99 per answered call. When the season is in full swing, the 50-Call Plan includes 50 calls for $29 a month, and the 100-Call Plan covers 100. Compare them on pricing.

Questions pest control owners ask
What does a pest control answering service say when someone asks if a treatment is safe for pets?
Only what you’ve approved. Some companies give a line based on the product label, such as keeping pets off the lawn until it’s dry; others prefer the technician to answer. Without an approved line, the AI says it’s passing the question to your technician, and marks it in your summary.
Can it book inspections and quarterly service?
Yes. It books inspections, one-time treatments and plan visits into the slots you allow, and confirms only once the booking is saved. If the calendar can’t take it, the request stays pending and your office confirms it. More on appointment scheduling.
How does it handle callbacks from plan customers?
It asks whether the caller is on a service plan and whether this is a callback between visits, then follows your rule: booked into a callback slot, or passed to the office. It writes down what the caller says about the plan; your office checks the account.
Is a pest control virtual receptionist useful in peak season?
That’s when it earns its keep. It takes several calls at the same time, so a hot week of wasp calls doesn’t end in a full voicemail box, and the urgent ones are marked Urgent in your summaries. As an answering service for pest control it can cover your whole line, or only the overflow and evenings.
Can it book a termite inspection for a home sale?
Yes. Buyers, sellers and agents call for a wood-destroying insect inspection with a closing date attached. The AI takes the address, the date it’s needed by and who’s paying, and books the inspection in your slots or passes it to your office, marked with the date. It doesn’t say what the report will find or whether the house will pass.
